The Schott brand dates back to 1913, when brothers Irvin and John Schott started a raincoat shop in East Broadway, New York. They created their first leather motorcycle jacket in 1928, in collaboration with the Beck motorcycle parts manufacturer, and branded the jackets with the name of Irvin's favorite Cuban cigar, the "Perfecto". Later, they produced a new design, named "Model 333", with star-shaped studs as epaulets. This new jacket became famous as the "One Star" worn by Marlon Brando in the movie The Wild One. From the 1960s, motorcycle jackets achieved rapid, widespread popularity in the rock fashion world, as well as among bikers. It is said that no jacket in the history of fashion has ever surpassed the workmanship of Schott's One Star masterpiece. With this model as its flagship product, Schott grew to become the largest sportswear brand in the United States.

Irvin Schott died in 1999, at the age of 99, yet generational succession was already in place. Currently, Irvin's granddaughter Rose Schott holds office as the company's fourth President. Schott family involvement in maintaining consistently high quality has been further extended with the recent appointment of Rose's son Jason Schott in the management ranks. The brand is uncompromising in its approach to manufacturing, and the company retains control of every process, from cutting to sewing in its own U.S. factories. This is a rare example of a brand that successfully upholds the spirit of traditional craftsmanship that embodies elements of American culture.
